A Note from the Past

A message from the minister at the Centenary in 1972

The Manse,
St. Germans

My Dear Friends,

On the occasion of this time of Centenary Celebration it gives me the very greatest pleasure to offer a word of sincere congratulation, on looking back, and of encouragement, as we look forward into the future.

100 years of active service to God and man is no mean record, and as we contemplate this memorable record we are aware of many honoured names who, almost literally, have lived and died for this particular House of God.

I would also like to express a most heartfelt word of thanks to those who today continue the work of God in our Society and Sunday School and those who remain faithful to the Lord and his people in these difficult days in which we are called to live and work and witness.

I believe that there is more to this celebration than just 100 years of visible building. We are members of a Church spiritual, and in this our link is not with those of the past who are dead, but with those of the past who are living victoriously. Their spirit still pervades these hallowed walls, and as we are one living spiritual force, the Church, the Body of Christ, we are of one heart and one way.

My hope is that this year of celebration may be, upon the threshold of a second hundred years, a mighty act of consecration. God has still much work for us to do here in this place and community.

May the blessing of God be our strength continually, His light our guide, His love our motive power and His cross our place of penitence and sign of assured victory.

With love and goodwill to all, Yours Sincerely, Keith Howe, Minister
